Bio



Andrew Smith is a KERRVILLE NEW FOLK WINNER for his songwriting and a "WORLD CLASS" tap style instrumentalist and his live show combines these talents. He has been playing folk clubs, festivals and house concerts in Canada, the USA and Europe to enthusiastic audiences. Andrew has shared the stage with Bruce Cockburn, Ruthie Foster, Gordie Sampson, Martyn Joseph and David Wilcox.

Andrew played at the INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL in Dresden Germany (to rave reviews). The festival featured a dozen great guitar players from around the world. He also travelled to Africa with a film crew - commissioned to write and record a tap style instrumental piece for the documentary film 'An Orphan's Dream'.

He was recently awarded PRODUCER OF THE YEAR in the Okanagan, and recorded award-winning folk artist Jane Eamon's 'a different place' and 'deep water' CDs.

Andrew won the KERRVILLE NEW FOLK SONGWRITING COMPETITION on the strength of his songs 'Holes in the Night Sky' and 'Rite of Passage'

'Rite of Passage' received Honourable Mention at the MID ATLANTIC SONG CONTEST, and was short-listed for the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST.

'Do You Like It?' received Honourable Mention at the 2007 SINGER-SONGWRITER AWARDS.

Andrew's solo instrumental CD 'escape velocity' won him the OKANAGAN INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR award and received two nominations from 'JUST PLAIN FOLKS' MUSIC AWARDS, and 'The Pilgrimage' was short-listed for the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST.
